Stories from the road: Toronto NCFS

Hi it’s Melanie, back from the latest AAE roadtrip. What a beautiful day for a gathering!  Sunshine greeted the large crowd out for the Annual Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Pow Wow, held in Dufferin Park this past weekend.  A number of dancers and drummers were on hand, with some stunning handworked regalia to be seen. 

AAE had a booth set up back by the children’s activities – out of the main activity areas, but definitely a steady crowd of little ones coming by, trying our building challenges and picking up our “I’m an Engineer” series of books.  Sadly I didn’t get many pictures of engineers in action, but believe me when I say this is the first time we’ve ever seen an Ironman suit being assembled around a very patient and willing little brother!

This was a fantastic one-day event, well organized and with a steady rhythm to the day.  Special thanks to Reza, who helped me set carry things from the van – flying solo can be tough when setting up a booth!  Made it back home to Kingston safe and sound, after this last trip of the Pow Wow season. Hoping everyone else did too, and can enjoy a restful winter with moccasins at the ready in case another event comes up!
