Stories from the road: Tyendinaga

Hi everyone, it's Melanie G reporting in from the powwow trail!

This weekend we were in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory for the 27th annual powwow celebration. It was a beautiful weekend, for one, and lots of people were there. It was especially exciting because it is where I am from.

We saw old friends and met new ones. A couple of our favourite siblings dropped by our booth to visit Gillian. They have a pretty cool secret handshake!

Across the path from us was the Sisters in Spirit booth set up by the Community Wellbeing Centre. Both of us made a doll to support the search for missing Aboriginal women. You can see Gillian's doll (with flowers in her hair) and mine (with pigtails and a dress) below!

We can't wait for next weekend when we're in Golden Lake.

See you there!
