Stories from the road: Sarnia

Hi Guys!

It's Gillian, from the AAE powwow trail. This weekend our team went to Sarnia, Ontario and we attended the Aamjiwnaang pow wow.

We spoke with lots of parents and youth about the fun and exciting things you can discover with engineering. Here was one of our younger future engineers. This little boy and his father were especially excited about the Ojibwe activity books.

We have family engineering activities for parents and children to learn a little about what engineering is, and what skills are needed. The engineer and builder Lego activity seemed to be everyone’s favourite! This father-daughter duo successfully completed this activity, and they communicated brilliantly while doing it.

Another team completed our engineer and builder Lego activity. This team ran into some problems with communication. However, after some coaching from our AAE team they successfully completed the activity. Krisit White (left) found this activity very helpful because her son River has Asperger’s syndrome. We met River a little earlier on the pow wow trail. He is raising awareness in First Nations communities for autism. River will be at the Munsee-Delaware pow wow this coming weekend and will have his own information booth. If you have the time check him out and ask about all the great things he is doing at such a young age!
