Melanie Howard and Justin Gordanier are the full-time staff of Aboriginal Access to Engineering.
Melanie serves as the Director of Outreach and Aboriginal Access for the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen's -she will mainly be staying in the office in Kingston and occassionally coming out to drop in on programs, because she wants to have some fun this summer too! Melanie is Mohawk and originally from the community of Kanehsatake in Quebec, where she was an elementary school teacher for almost 10 years. She holds additional qualifications in math and science and is a true believer in hands-on learning as a way to engage all students.
Justin is the Aboriginal Community Engagement Coordinator for the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen's. Justin's position is sponsored by the NSERC PromoScience program. A qualified high school science teacher in biology and physics, Justin also has additional qualifications for grades 1-8. Having been a supply teacher in his home community of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory for the past couple of years, he looks forward to getting out on the road and doing what he loves most - engaging kids with the exciting world of science and engineering!
