Role Model(s)

Examples:

Metallurgical engineers research, control and develop processes used in the extraction and refining of metals.

Metallurgical engineers:

  • Use chemistry to separate valuable minerals and metals from surrounding rock
  • Come up with new metal mixes (called alloys) which are very strong and lightweight
  • Figure out how to process metals into sheets, fibres or other forms.
In your community:

Metallurgical engineers are also involved in the initial evaluation of potential mine sites. If your community lies near metal and mineral deposits, as a metallurgical engineer you could help the band council make decisions regarding mining and mining rights in the area.
